I was scrolling through Twitter this morning, as per usual, and came across the tragic news that Planters has in fact killed off its iconic mascot Mr. Peanut in a pre-Super Bowl advertisement. #RIPeanut to an absolute legend. We'll pour one out for you buddy!
Fans (me) will apparently be able to watch Mr. Peanut's funeral during the third quarter of the Super Bowl when the company's full advertisement will premiere. His death comes as a surprise to me because he is such an iconic character, but I'm curious to see what direction Planters is going to go in next now that, I'm assuming, he will no longer be in any of their ads. So far they've had a lot of interaction from other brands and consumers on Twitter, but what do you guys think? Is this a smart move for them or do you think it will completely backfire?
